Cedar City Wheelers will ride Tour de France
CEDAR CITY KS— The CC Wheelers Bicycle Club of Cedar City Kansas has been selected to race in this years prestigious Tour de France. Wheelers ride captain Dave O'Brien announced today that the Wheelers received the notice late Tuesday following the drug-related disqualification of all 21 professional teams that had been scheduled to participate in the world's premier bicycle race. Known throughout cycling simply as "The Tour", the three-week-long race, which has been plagued by drug scandals in recent years, has historically been the domain of European cycling teams, although the individual winner the past three years has been American Lance Armstrong riding for the US Postal Service Team. "This is huge. It pretty much came out of nowhere," remarked O'Brien who says the exact team makeup won't be known until after the club's "Friday Means Donuts" ride. Other teams, selected by Tour officials in the hope of avoiding additional drug-related scandal, will include at least 11 two-man Mormon missionary teams from Salt Lake City, Utah.
